Indigenous Data Law Lab
The Indigenous Data Law Lab at NYU is an initiative designed to provide legal support around AI innovation, data interventions, research, education and training that advance Indigenous Peoples’ data rights. We are focused on the development and implementation of new and innovative legal approaches to Indigenous control of data that also supports the finding and re-aggregation of Indigenous data.
Research Focus
Our lab conducts interdisciplinary research that intersects law, data science, and Indigenous studies. We focus on creating frameworks that respect indigenous data sovereignty and promote ethical data practices. Our team consists of scholars, legal experts, and indigenous community members who collaboratively explore the implications of data usage in indigenous contexts. We aim to educate and advocate for policies that empower indigenous communities through responsible data management.
